What You Need to Know About Making Stovetop Espresso?

Coffee from a stovetop coffee maker is two to three times more concentrated than regular coffee. It is intense, rich, and flavorful. That’s why coffee from a Cuban coffee maker has rightfully earned the nickname "stovetop espresso." This method is one of the most preferred ways of making coffee at home for Bulgarians.

Follow these 5 simple steps:

  1. Fill the bottom chamber with water up to the safety valve.
  2. Insert the funnel.
  3. Fill it with ground coffee without pressing it down.
  4. Screw the top part of the coffee maker onto the base and place it on medium-low heat.
  5. In a few minutes, you will have delicious Italian stovetop espresso.

Repeating the process with the exact amount of water and precisely measured ground coffee ensures consistently excellent results in your cup.

Grind your coffee beans to a medium-fine consistency. The ground coffee should be slightly finer than for drip coffee but coarser than for an espresso machine. You need enough coffee to fill the filter basket, which has a capacity of 15-17 grams (or about 2.5 tablespoons).

The preparation process is relatively quick. For a 6-cup coffee maker, it takes about 5 minutes. Some people recommend removing it from the heat as soon as you hear a bubbling sound. Be cautious with this method, as brewing on a lower heat may result in the bottom reservoir being half full and the upper chamber only half filled.
